Proven winning build compositions for Balatro. These are the most consistent strategies that work across stake levels.
1. Mult Scaling Build (S-Tier)
Core Jokers: Fibonacci + Blueprint + Brainstorm + Campfire
Strategy: Focus entirely on Mult. Fibonacci gives +8 Mult per Ace/2/3/5/8 played. Blueprint copies the joker to its left. Brainstorm copies ALL jokers to its left. Stack these three for exponential Mult growth.
Best Deck: Red Deck (extra hand) or Blue Deck (extra discard)
2. Chip Stacking Build (A-Tier)
Core Jokers: Odd Todd + Even Steven + Pareidolia + Baron
Strategy: Maximize chip value. Odd Todd gives +31 chips per odd card. Even Steven gives +4 Mult per even card. Pareidolia makes all cards face cards, doubling their value.
Best Deck: Green Deck (-1 discard but +5 hand size)
3. Retrigger Build (A-Tier)
Core Jokers: Zany Joker + Yorick + Ride the Bus + Oops!
Strategy: Make cards score multiple times. Zany retriggers your first played card. Yorick retriggers spades. Stack retriggers on high-value cards (Aces, Polychrome) for massive score multipliers.
Best Deck: Yellow Deck (free retrigger voucher)
4. Economy Build (B-Tier)
Core Jokers: Golden Joker + Ride the Bus + Wealthy Joker + Trader
Strategy: Never run out of money. Golden Joker gives $2 every round. Buy all shop items, upgrade every card. This build is slow but extremely safe for new players.
Best Deck: Purple Deck (less starting money but +1 hand)
Tips for Any Build
- Save before risky picks: If a legendary joker appears, save first. Some are traps.
- Focus on one scaling type: Don’t mix chip and Mult builds early. Pick one and commit.
- Planet cards matter: Upgrading your poker hands’ base Chips and Mult is more important than you think.
- Buy Vouchers: Telescope and Grabber are the best early Vouchers.
